Let your tie do the talking too .....
One of the most challenging
tasks facing most adults is the process of getting a good job. While
educational qualifications, aptitude, and work experience carry
weight, the impression that one conveys during that all important
event, the job interview, can either make or break the applicant’s
prospects. As the saying goes, ‘first impressions are lasting
impressions’. Therefore, it goes without being said that the
applicant’s attire should be impeccable. Since the
tie is one accessory that is most noticeable on a person, the
prospective candidate should not go wrong on this one. The key here
is subtle but stylish. This implies that the tie could be
multicolored or bright; but at the same time it should not be
ostentatious.
For a job interview, a safe bet
would be to wear a
Belisi silk tie. Silk is one material that looks sophisticated
even without washing or ironing. This does not mean, though, that
you should face the interview panel with a crumpled silk tie. A rule
of thumb says that the silk tie you wear should either be plain with
solid colors running right across the tie or sport sober stripes or
dots. If one does not possess a silk tie, satin or polyester ties
would be a good option.
An excessively bright or glossy
tie could convey to the decision makers that the interview candidate
has a ‘care a damn’ attitude or is over confident; both qualities
not looked for in a potential employee. Personality enhancement
experts strongly discourage wearing of any cartoon ties or ties
having some mementos, logos, or souvenirs. Another strict ‘no-no’ is
the donning of club ties or some other ties that carry the insignias
of some organization or fraternity. Wearing these ties could impart
to the interviewers the impression that the candidate has certain
allegiances to organizations or philosophies that the interviewers
are not in favor of. This could adversely affect the chances of the
candidate for landing the job.
One tried and tested
requirement is matching the
tie with both the shirt and the suit. However the tie should
offer some contrast with the shirt and should not sport color tones
too similar with the shirt. Additionally, the color choice as well
as the tie-shirt color combination says a lot about the tastes of
the wearer. You could wear Jaguar ties, pick and brown ties, paisley
ties, quicksilver ties, black and yellow ties, red and gold ties,
striped ties, dotted ties, coral ties, green silk ties, hibiscus
ties, lilac men’s ties, palm ties, and even Celtic ties.
As far as knotting the tie is
concerned, the Windsor knot, the half-Windsor knot, the Pratt knot,
and the four-in-hand knot are suitable. All of these knots, besides
being easy to tie, are neat and precise, having a triangular knot of
just the right size. It has been found that a larger knotted tie
renders the user with a more confident and positive appearance.
However, the knot should match the collar width of the shirt. Thus a
broad knot cannot be used with a shirt having a narrow collar
opening. The length of the tie should be adjusted such that the
tie’s tip is in line with the belt. With a tie that you are
comfortable in, you can go out there and give your best to land the
job of your dreams.
